Russian bright fish price increase will be mainly exported to Europe or China

2019 08/09

Oleg Rekov, representative of the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency in the United States, said on Sunday that if the United States relies on CNN`s false reports on the large market share of the Russian Mindfish in the United States, Russia The same size of the Ming Tai fish can be converted to export to Europe or China.

CNN has previously published an article saying that Russian prune fish is cheaper than similar products in the United States, and it has a share of about $200 million in the frozen prawn market in the United States, while American primary and secondary school students eat fried fish sticks made with Russian tilapia.

Rekov said: "I can imagine that the US government will impose import tariffs on Russian bright fish... If they close our borders, we can turn our attention to Europe or China."

He pointed out that this will only affect up to 500 tons of direct supply per year. Rekov explained: "These are insignificant, equivalent to the catch of a boat a week."

He said that the Russian Mindfish was sold to China for processing and the finished products were shipped to the United States.

Oleg Rekov, representative of the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency in the United States, previously said that the news that the Russian Mindfish has a market share of US$200 million in the United States is not true.

The price of Russian bright fish has risen markedly in the past year, with one of the most popular ones rising by a quarter, mainly due to increased demand from China and Europe.

According to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, in early August 2018, the wholesale price of the Far East Ming Tai fish was about 78 rubles per kilogram, compared with 63 rubles a year ago. In other words, the price of the Mingtai fish in the main producing areas of Russia has increased by about 24%. The initial price increase led to higher prices in central Russia, and the wholesale price of the Minnesota rose from 75 rubles per kilogram in August 2017 to 94 rubles, an increase of 25%.

The popularity of Mint is ranked third in Russia, with an average per capita consumption of 2.59 kg per year, second only to salmon (2.73 kg) and salmon (2.81 kg). Russian bright fish is mainly used for export, and the domestic market price depends on the international situation. Experts believe that the price of Mingtai fish is affected by the price and demand situation in China and Europe. Russia is the world's largest supplier of light fish, mainly to China, South Korea and Europe. In 2017, the catch amounted to 1.8 million tons, of which about 800,000 tons of processed products were used for export.
